“The only thing I like better than talking about food, is eating.”
–John Walters, “The Food Dude”
So I think 2014 is going to be a good year. I’m feeling very optimistic–it’s been awesome so far, so I’m hoping that trend will continue in the coming months. Also, it’s restaurant week in Charleston. Remember last week how I said I was going to start my diet? Yeah, that’s not happening. I have a reservation literally every night this week at a different restaurant in Charleston. So, there’s that.
On a personal note, this weekend was really exciting for me because I’m officially in a relationship with a really cute boy that I’ve know for a while (who said you can’t get out of the friendzone?!). So if you see me on the street smiling like a crazy person, that’s why.
ICYMI, I’m giving away a free Delta Touch2O Faucet. Enter to win now! You have 1 week left. Good luck!
“Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity.”
–Voltaire
Whoooo! Was that Auburn-Georgia game exciting or what? And Carolina-Florida was pretty intense, too, towards the end. This was definitely a great weekend for college football.
It was also just a really great weekend for me in general. Went to a chicken wing cook off on Friday night, tailgated on Saturday, and then saw Ender’s Game on Sunday! It was a jam-packed weekend, but it was so much fun and that’s just how I like it.
This week’s quote comes from Thomas Keller, and I think it really applies to life. Food just tastes better when people put their heart into cooking it. That’s probably why my mom is such an amazing cook!
“A recipe has no soul. You as the cook must bring soul to the recipe”
–Thomas Keller
Sorry I’ve been a little slack on the quotes this month. Things are finally starting to settle down, so I’ll be much more diligent (hopefully).
This week’s quote comes from Madeleine L’Engle, author of A Wrinkle In Time (among other things). This quote pretty much sums up my past couple of weeks. I may have been taking it a little too literally, and therefore am off to the gym. Ta ta!
“That’s something I’ve noticed about food: whenever there’s a crisis if you can get people to eating normally things get better. ”
–Madeleine L’Engle
Happy Almost-Independence-Day everyone! Hopefully you all have a short week this week and you spend lots of time eating and drinking and blowing crap up with people you love!
This week’s quote comes from Chinese writer Lin Yutang and is in honor of July 4th (hot dogs and hamburgers anyone?).
“What is patriotism but the love of the food one ate as a child?”
–Lin Yutang
Hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was awesome (albeit busy), with a bunch of people visiting from out of town. First Taylor came with 2 of her friends, and then Lauren came Friday night, and Cullen and Ben’s friends Saturday afternoon. It was a whirlwind of games, wine coolers, lounging by the beach, lounging by the pool, watching movies, and eating. Basically all of my favorite things.
This week’s quote is in honor of my weekend spent with good friends (both new and old). Enjoy!
“Cooking is not about being the best or most perfect cook, but rather it is about sharing the table with family and friends.”
–Skye Gyngell, My Favorite Ingredients
This weekend was a soggy one–one rain storm right after another–which really put a damper on my plans to lounge by the pool all day. Despite the issues the rain caused, and my trip to the dentist’s office, this weekend was quite pleasant. I ate way too much, but I guess that’s not really out of the ordinary.
This week’s quote is from baseball player / manager Tommy Lasorda, and although it’s actually about baseball, I think it works just as well as a food quote.
“When we lose, I eat. When we win, I eat. I also eat when we’re rained out.”
–Tommy Lasorda
Well, I’m officially back to reality after almost 2 weeks of gluttonous indulgence. Was too afraid to step on the scale this morning because I know I’m not going to like what I see.
This week’s quote comes from French humorist Erma Bombeck, and highlights some pretty sage advice that I definitely did not follow whilst on my cruise.
“Never order food in excess of your body weight.”
–Erma Bombeck
I’m cruising somewhere in the caribbean right now, lounging under the sun, stuffing my face with free food. No new review or recipe on Friday, but here’s a quote to tide you over until my return.
“Ever eat so much you feel sick? Isn’t that the best?”
–Jim Gaffigan
This weekend was definitely one of excess for me. I decided to have a “Treat Yo Self” Day on Friday (which stretched into the entire weekend) by ordering Red Curry for lunch, and then it just kind of devolved into a weekend of tater tots, mac and cheese, Chick-fil-A, and regret.
This week’s quote comes from Alanis Morissette, because I definitely took her advice a little too far.
“I still indulge in a glass of wine or chocolate – treats are mandatory. Without deviating from the day-to-day healthy diet once in a while, it wouldn’t be sustainable for me, and that’s what I wanted: an approach to eating to last my entire life.”
–Alanis Morissette
