Quote of the Week 7/4/11

July 4, 2011

Since it’s Independence Day, I figured we could use a good ole’ fashioned patriotic quote that describes the quintessential American experience.

“The 4th of July combines the two things Americans love most in one day: alcohol and explosives.”

— David Letterman

Maybe alcohol and explosives are to blame for his weird teeth.

Quote of the Week 6/27/11

Today’s quote comes from the “king of gourmets” himself, Mr. James Beard. I like it when people have a sense of humor about things. I also really like tarragon.

“I believe that if ever I had to practice cannibalism, I might manage if there were enough tarragon around.”

— James Beard

You’d think he’d have grown out a massive beard, just for irony’s sake.

Quote of the Week 6/20/11

Today’s quote comes from My Name Is Earl. I’m still upset it got cancelled. They said “To be continued…” but there was no more after that. They lied to me. It still hurts.

“You know how I feel about tacos. It’s the only food shaped like a smile. A beef smile.”

— Earl Hickey

Quote of the Week 6/13/11

June 13, 2011

Today’s quote comes from the late Luciano Pavarotti, who sums up basically how I feel about mealtime. Who knew we had so much in common?

“One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.”

–Luciano Pavarotti

The calories go straight to his beard.

Quote of the Week 6/6/11

June 5, 2011

Today’s quote comes from a man I respect and really enjoy watching and listening to, Mr. Anthony Bourdain. He always finds a way to relate food back to life. He travels around the world, showing that food is more than just sustenance, it’s something that brings people together, no matter their backgrounds or beliefs. I admire him for what he does. Plus I’m super jealous of his job.

“I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we’re talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters, or working for organized crime ‘associates,’ food, for me, has always been an adventure”

–Anthony Bourdain

I don’t even have anything snarky to say, he’s just so freaking cool. (Photo by Fort Greene Focus)
