Restaurant Week at CO All September Long

September 2, 2015

One of the things I miss most about working on King Street is being able to go to CO whenever I got a whim. Their vietnamese chicken salad and dac biet pho were standards of my lunchtime repertoire, and their happy hour deals were irresistible. Now that I’m not visiting CO once a week, it’s really put a dent in earning my free trip to Vietnam via their CO Rewards program.

And also my PHOto obsession #puns

Lucky for you, CO is treatings its Rewards Members to restaurant week all month long! Rewards Members can enjoy a 3-course selection for $20, 4-course selection for $25, and add on a 3-course cocktail pairing for $17 thru September 30th.  Not a Rewards Member (why not?! It’s free. Get it together, people)? CO will also join other area restaurants in the official South Carolina Restaurant Week from September 9 – 20, offering its prix fixe menu to all guests.

The Alley Launches $3 Happy Hour Menu

August 31, 2015

The Alley is one of my favorite bars for many reasons:

  1. Loaded Tater Tots
  2. It’s a bowling alley
  3. So many arcade games
  4. I’m so good at Skee Ball
  5. The music is pretty great
  6. $4 burgers

Now I can add a 7th reason to that list: $3 happy hour menu (which features the loaded tots). Can it get any better than that??

No. No, it cannot.

No. No, it cannot.

Here’s what’s included on the $3 Happy Hour Menu:

  • House Liquors
  • Domestic Bottles
  • Select Drafts (PBR, Yuengling, and Bud Light)
  • Boiled Peanuts
  • Loaded Tater Tots
  • Sliders

Well, looks like y’all know where to find me between 4 and 7 Monday – Friday from now on.

Charity Cocktail Fundraiser at Tavern & Table

August 28, 2015

Happy Friday! It’s the weekend and that means you should be out living it up and enjoying the fact that there are 2 whole days between now and when you have to be back at work. A good way to celebrate the weekend is by drinking a great tasting cocktail. But the best way to celebrate the weekend is by drinking a great tasting cocktail that raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation!

I'll take 4, please.

I’ll take 4, please.

Head over to Tavern & Table between now & Labor Day (9/7) to order the Breath of Fresh Air cocktail (Honeysuckle vodka by Cathead Vodka, fresh squeezed grapefruit, San Peligrino & muddled strawberry), and enjoy your weekend knowing you can let off steam and raise money for a great cause all at the same time.

Charleston Mac Off Tickets – On Sale Now!

August 26, 2015

If you know me at all, you know that Mac and Cheese is kind of like my favorite thing in the whole world. I might even love it more than I love my family (sorry mom & dad). So that’s why I’m so excited about my favorite food festival, the Charleston Mac Off!

Seriously, this is my dream event.

Seriously, this is my dream event.

I’ve been going to the festival since 2011, so I’ve seen it grow from the bus shed to Mt Pleasant Waterfront Park, and this year is poised to be bigger and better than ever! They’ve moved it the The Grove at Patriot’s Point. It’s happening October 24th from 2 -7 pm. That’s 5 hours of cheesy noodle-y goodness.

This year’s event includes a Mac and Cheese Eating Competition, Home Grown Cooks competition, vendor village, food trucks, alcohol, and more. Tickets are available now, and you should buy them. Trust me on this.

Dîner en Blanc Coming to Charleston

August 20, 2015

If there’s one thing that I love more than a dinner party, it’s a themed dinner party.

Themed *costume* dinner party?! I die.

Themed *costume* dinner party?! I die.

Dîner en Blanc is just that. A secret pop-up picnic where all the guests wear white and supply the following:

  1. A table, two (white) chairs, and white tablecloth.
  2. A picnic basket with food*, stemware, and white (surprise!) dinnerware.
*There will also be an option to get pre-order food, which can be picked up at the site (participating restaurants are TBD).
  3. Champagne or wine. Beer and hard liquor are a big “no no.”
And in October it will hopefully be much less humid.

And in October it will hopefully be much less humid.

Think of it as a giant picnic with your best friends who just happen to basically be the entire city of Charleston. There will be great food, dancing,  champagne, and sparklers. I’m so excited and it’s going to be so much fun! The Charleston event is happening on Thursday, October 15th, 2015, so mark your calendars!

And did I mention the sparklers??

Swig & Swine Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary with Free Ribs!

May 22, 2015

Ok everyone. If you’re a meat lover and you live in or around Charleston, it’s time to mark your calendars for May 27. This is my favorite BBQ joint, Swig & Swine‘s 1-year anniversary. To celebrate, they’re inviting all “swiners” to their anniversary party next Wednesday, starting at 11 am. The first 100 guests through the doors will receive a free rack of their famous, lip-lickin’ ribs.

I'm actually a little embarrassed about the number of times I've eaten at Swig & Swine in just 1 year.

You’ll also enjoy $1 Palmetto Amber Ales all day and the first 100 people to order one will also get to keep the pint glass.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! They’re keeping the celebration going on Sunday 5/31 with a “Pig Pickin’ Picnic” in the Swig & Swine parking lot, with a whole hog roast, beer truck, music, food specials, and more!

Shrimp and Grits and Charleston

April 14, 2015

The Washington Post recently visited the Lowcountry and put together a piece about the Charleston food scene and its iconic dish, Shrimp and Grits. The video features some of Charleston’s top restaurants, including one of my favorite spots, Minero.

Washington Post Food Critic Tom Sietsema also featured Charleston in his monthly series that highlights the best food cities in America. He starts his visit at another of my favorite Sean Brock joints, Husk, where he tastes the fantastic cornbread, benne rolls, pig ear lettuce wraps, and (again) shrimp and grits.

He visited 18 other Charleston restaurants, like Martha Lou’s, Edmund’s Oast, and Leon’s, among others and has mostly positive things to say, although he says that the service in Charleston “lacks polish.”

“The best and brightest [in Charleston], I found, have come up with creative ways of serving tradition.”
