Quote of the Week – 3/20/17

March 20, 2017

So this week, I’m heading on a very exciting adventure to China to visit my favorite redhead / one of my very best friends in the whole world, Lily! She moved to China in October of 2015, where she’s been ever since teaching English to adorable little Chinese kids. I saw her briefly during this past Thanksgiving when she was back in the US for a visit, but those few hours were not nearly enough time. So I booked a flight, got my Chinese Visa (what a process, y’all), and am leaving tomorrow for one of the greatest adventures of my life!

In honor of that, here’s a quote about food and friendship, my 2 favorite things in life.

“When I eat with my friends, it is a moment of real pleasure, when I really enjoy my life.”
– Monica Bellucci

Quote of the Week – 3/6/17

March 7, 2017

Wowza, can you believe it’s March already? I surely can’t believe how quickly 2017 is flying by (although I am looking forward to warmer weather).

After eating all of the foods during CHSWFF, I probably should be sticking to salad, but life is short and who wants to do that?

“I do love Italian food. Any kind of pasta or pizza”
– Jennifer Love Hewitt

Quote of the Week – 2/26/17

February 26, 2017

It’s the best week of the year: Charleston Wine + Food! This year, I have a media pass, so I’m going to be attending every event I possible can (this would be one of those times where a cloning machine or time-turner would very much come in handy).

In honor of this awesome event, here’s a quote from Lin Yutang that pretty much summarizes what’s so great about the culinary scene in Charleston:

“Our lives are not in the lap of the gods, but in the lap of our cooks.”
-Lin Yutang

Quote of the Week: 12/25/16

December 25, 2016

Merrrrry Christmas! I hope you get everything you asked for from Santa Claus this year! I asked for a new coffee machine and a cruise to the Caribbean, which I know that I got because I bought them for myself. I’m my own Secret Santa.

This week’s quote reminds me of Christmas, because it involves one of my favorite holiday traditions: baking cookies! Hope you enjoy!

“Baking cookies is comforting, and cookies are the sweetest little bit of comfort food. They are very bite-sized and personal”
— Sandra Lee

Ho-ho-hope you have a Merry Christmas!

PS, if you have a moment, I’d appreciate it if you nominated Queen of the Food Age for “Best Local Interest Blog” for Best of Charleston 2017! If I win, I’ll bake all of my followers a dozen cookies!

Quote of the Week: Thanksgiving 2016

November 24, 2016

Well it’s that glorious season where I stop pretending like I diet or exercise and just change into my sweatpants for the remainder of the year. Whilst my dad and I wage the great “stuffing vs dressing” debate for the 1,000th year in a row, enjoy this quote, inspired by what Thanksgiving means to me.

“Most of us have fond memories of food from our childhood. Whether it was our mom’s homemade lasagna or a memorable chocolate birthday cake, food has a way of transporting us back to the past.
–Homaro Cantu”

November 18, 2016

TGIF! I’ll be attending Friendsgiving and making creamed spinach for the first time in my life. On Sunday, I’ll be traveling back to my homestead of Greenville, SC (#yeahTHATgreenville). So if you’re in G-Vegas for Thanksgiving, send me a message and let’s hang out!

This week’s quote comes from one of my personal heroes, Julia Child. Hope you all enjoy your weekend!

“In France, cooking is a serious art form and a national sport.”
— Julia Child

Happy Halloweekend!

October 28, 2016

Hope you all enjoy your Halloweekends as much as we’re planning to!

This week’s quote comes from Ogden Nash and I think it’s a perfect representation of how I expect my weekend to go.

“Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker”
-Ogden Nash

I can’t believe it’s May already!

Quote of the Week 3/23/15

March 23, 2015

So, I just realized that in the entire time I’ve been writing this blog, I’ve never quoted Oprah. That seems like a gross oversight on my part, so I’m going to fix that now.

“My idea of heaven is a great big baked potato and someone to share it with.”
-Oprah Winfrey

Will you share your baked potato with me?

Things have been kind of crazy around here recently, so sorry for the delay! I’m working on getting back on track and back to regular postings soon. Let’s hope the universe supports me in that effort!

Anywho, here’s a quote:

“If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him… the people who give you their food give you their heart.”
–Cesar Chavez
