Quote of the Week: Thanksgiving 2016

November 24, 2016

Well it’s that glorious season where I stop pretending like I diet or exercise and just change into my sweatpants for the remainder of the year. Whilst my dad and I wage the great “stuffing vs dressing” debate for the 1,000th year in a row, enjoy this quote, inspired by what Thanksgiving means to me.

“Most of us have fond memories of food from our childhood. Whether it was our mom’s homemade lasagna or a memorable chocolate birthday cake, food has a way of transporting us back to the past.
–Homaro Cantu”

Sorry guys, I’m a little behind, but I’m going to get caught up, soon! I promise! For now, enjoy this little food quote to keep your appetites whetted until I get to all of the backlog I have.

“If anybody even tries to whisper the word ‘diet,’ I’m like, ‘You can go f- yourself.”
–Jennifer Lawrence

Food Quote of the Week: Maya Angelou

May 28, 2014

I know it’s been a while since I posted a food quote, but I’m working really hard to get back into the swing of things. I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Maya Angelou, one of my personal heroes. I remember when my mother encouraged me to read “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” as an incoming freshman in high school, and I’ve had a special place in my heart for Ms. Angelou ever since.

Did you know she was the author of 2 cookbooks? You learn something new every day.

“I like the country foods: the greens and the beans and the cornbreads and the biscuits. Not just for the taste, but because it infuses the house with an aroma that says “You are welcome. You’re going to have some good food. It’s going to take some time. And once you eat it you won’t want to leave.”
–Maya Angelou

Quote of the Week 3/3/14

March 5, 2014

This week’s quote is in honor of my favorite vegan, my cousin Naomi. Enjoy!

“Calvin: Why are you crying mom?
Mom: I’m cutting up an onion.
Calvin: It must be hard to cook if you anthropomorphize your vegetables.”
–Bill Waterson, Calvin and Hobbes

Quote of the Week 2/24/14

February 26, 2014

Starting next week I’m going to try re-formatting my blog just a bit, in terms of my posting schedule. Mondays (which were previously reserved for “Quote of the Week” are now going to be a “weekend round-up,” highlighting all the shenanigans I got into over the weekend, and giving my readers a chance to know me a little better as a person and a blogger. I’ll be moving the Quote to Wednesday, and saving the review/recipe/random fodder posts for Friday (or Saturday if my week has been particularly busy). I hope you guys like the new format!

This week’s quote is in honor of Girl Scout Cookie season (basically the best season of the year), and comes from Barbara Johnson. Enjoy!

“A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand”
–Barbara Johnson

Turns out there are a lot of "Barbara Johnsons" out there, so rather than run the risk of picking the wrong one, I just went with this Buzzfeed graphic instead.

I hope that whether you’re single, in a relationship, or some weird and ambiguous third option that you have a happy and chocolate-filled Valentine’s Day weekend!

This week’s quote comes from food photographer Karl Petzke and sums up how I’m feeling today.

“Chocolate symbolizes, as does no other food, luxury, comfort, sensuality, gratification, and love.”
–Karl Petzke

Great. Now I'm craving chocolate AND champagne.

Quote of the Week 11/11/13

November 11, 2013

First of all, Happy Veterans Day to all the servicemen & women out there. Thank you for your service!

This weekend was my final wedding of 2013, and it was so much fun. My mom even came down from Greenville to celebrate Ryan & Becca, and it was just a total blast of a weekend.

The other highlight of my weekend was roasting a whole chicken in my crock pot for the first time. I know that this probably isn’t a major feat for any of you out there, but for me it was kind of a big deal. So this week’s quote is in honor of my newfound chicken roasting superpowers. Enjoy!

“You could probably get through life without knowing how to roast a chicken, but the question is, would you want to?”
–Nigella Lawson

A quick one for this week! Today’s quote comes from Jay Leno, who’s occasionally funny. Here’s a good one.

“Soup is just a way of screwing you out of a meal.”
