Quote of the Week 2/5/18: National Call-In-Sick Day

February 5, 2018

Boy oh boy, how about that Super Bowl last night? I was pulling for the Eagles, so I quite enjoyed how the game ended, although TBH I was way more concerned with the quality of the commercials than the actual football. I absolutely loved the Tide Commercials, the Mountain Dew/Doritos mash up, and the Alexa commercial. Was really underwhelmed by JT’s performance (except Mirror, which is one of my all-time favorite songs). All in all, my favorite part of last night was probably my guacamole.

Now that’s a super bowl, if you ask me.

In honor of today being National Call-In-Sick Day, I thought I’d post a quote inspired by my favorite hangover food, Indian food (specifically paneer tikka masala). I know it’s a weird thing to crave when you’re hungover, but it always makes me feel slightly more like a human afterward. What’s your favorite hangover food?

“I don’t know about you, he said, but I could murder a curry.”

Quote of the Week 1/22/18: Ciabatta Be Kidding Me

January 22, 2018

Another weekend in the books. I can’t believe how quickly January has flown by. I skipped up to Greenville for the weekend to see one of my best friends and celebrate a belated Christmas party with our closest family friends. There was enough food for an army, and we played a lot of hilarious games that kept us laughing til the wee hours of the night. I’m heading to DC this week to visit more friends and to celebrate Restaurant Week (which I’m the most excited for tbh…sorry La).

I’m dedicating this week’s quote to all of you still sticking to your New Years Resolutions or attempting to do Whole30.

“Good bread is the most fundamentally satisfying of all foods; and good bread with fresh butter, the greatest of feasts.”
― James Beard

Quote of the Week 1/15/18: Have Your Cake and Eat It Too

January 15, 2018

I’ve always hated that saying “have your cake and eat it, too” I think I heard somewhere that it’s actually backwards, and the real phrase is supposed to be “eat your cake and have it, too” which makes way more sense. But as someone who doesn’t really like cake, it’s still kind of a lame phrase IMO.

Which is why I love this week’s quote, which comes from author Brandi Bates. It’s a little sassy and it centers around food, so it’s basically me.

“All those other girls are cake…I’m Crème brûlée…Tiramisu, if you will. Just a few notches above.”
— Brandi L. Bates

Quote of the Week 1/8/18: New Year, Same Ole Me

January 8, 2018

Apparently it’s Monday again, but I’ve completely lost track of what day of the week it is after being on holiday break, followed by snow days (snow daze, amiright)…. I’m not even sure what year it is anymore. Is it still 2018? Still can’t believe all the snow we got, but it did give me a great opportunity to work on a giveaway with JORD (pronounced “yoad” as in “toad”) watches. Enter the giveaway here -> JORD giveaway

Also, if you watched the Golden Globes last night and can’t get enough of voting for things, it would be super amazing if you could nominate Queen of the Food Age as “Best Local Interest Blog” for Best of Charleston 2018!

This week’s quote comes from 70’s rock prodigies the Steve Miller Band and adequately sums up how I’m feeling about my new year’s resolutions only 1 week into the year:

“Somebody get me a cheeseburger!”

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas!

December 25, 2017

Merry Christmas friends and followers!

I hope that Santa brings you everything you wished for and that you watched both A Christmas Prince and A Christmas Inheritance on Netflix and loved them as much as I did.

I’m having a celebrity mashed potatoes recipe cook off today with my parents (check Instagram for results) and I’ll probably have a Merry-mosa or 2, so it’s sure to be an awesome Christmas, indeed.

“Christmas for me is all about spending time with my family. I cherish any chance we have to spend all day together making gingerbread houses, baking cookies, or sitting around and watching movies.”
— Blake Lively

Quote of the Week 12/18/17: Time For A Vacay

December 20, 2017

I’m not sure if this is true for most of you, but I’m officially on Christmas break! I have a lot of fun adventures coming up in the next 2 weeks, like a trip to Atlanta, a visit to the beach at Edisto, a wedding in Hilton Head, lots of family & friends coming to visit, and watching all the amazing movies coming out soon (Pitch Perfect and Jumani, I’m lookin’ at you)… I’m really looking forward to it (although the thought of only having like a week left to stream Christmas music constantly throughout the day is starting to make me so blue just thinking about it).

In honor of my (and hopefully your) vacation, I wanted to share this quote, which accurately sums up how I’d like to spend the next 2 weeks.

“If I had any choice in the matter, I’d stay in my comfy bed and eat warm chocolate chip cookies all day.”
— Simone Elkeles

Quote of the Week 12/11/17: A Socially Unacceptable Amount of Flavor

December 11, 2017

Happy Monday! I’m feeling very rested after a pretty laid back weekend (although I do think I might be coming down with a cold, but fingers crossed that it’s just me overreacting). I stayed in pajamas all day yesterday and even took a bubble bath while watching I’ll Be Home For Christmas (arguably JTT’s best role). I also took a little inspiration from the queen Chrissy Teigen, and made her cobb salad recipe, which was absolutely delicious.

So good I forgot it was a salad

While I was reading Chrissy’s cookbook this weekend, I was inspired by her hilarious and relatable approach to food and cooking, so I’m dedicating this week’s quote to her!

“I know how I like my food. I like it spicy, salty, sticky, crunchy, juicy, oozy – basically any dish you know and love, jacked up to a bordering-on-socially-unacceptable amount of flavor.”
–Chrissy Teigen

Like how I add double the amount of garlic or cilantro that any recipe calls for. She just gets me.

Quote of the Week 11/27/17: Let’s Get Poppin’

November 27, 2017

One down, 2 to go! We’re officially less than a month from Christmas y’all. I started all of my holiday shopping early, so I’m over halfway done, but I still feel like I have a long way to go!

This week is very exciting because my best friend Lauren is coming to visit and bringing her husband Matt for his first visit to Charleston this weekend. We’re going to play tourist, going to all the main sites, which is something I haven’t done in a really long time, so I’m pumped.

This week’s quote comes from author James Patterson and is in honor of Lauren because she loves grits. Enjoy your week!

“Popcorn for breakfast! Why not? It’s a grain. It’s like, like, grits, but with high self-esteem.”
— James Patterson

This came from a book, so the “like, like” was apparently a stylistic choice.

Quote of the Week 11/20/17: It’s Turkey Week Again

November 20, 2017

Happy Monday again, my dear friends and followers! I can’t believe it’s already Thanksgiving week again… where did 2017 go?! I for one am excited to eat my weight in Turkey and various carb-loaded side dishes (mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and stuffing, I’m lookin’ at you).

In honor of Thanksgiving, this week’s quote comes from David Mamet and is a hilarious way of coping with too much family time.

“We must have a pie. Stress cannot exist in the presence of a pie.”
— David Mamet

Quote of the Week: Back in the Kitchen

November 13, 2017

Happy Monday, friends and followers! Another Monday is here, and I’m trying to get back in the habit of cooking and meal prepping to hopefully slim down a bit before I put on all that holiday weight (so basically zero out by the end of the year). In order to do that, I stopped by Trader Joe’s yesterday and spent way too much money on food (which should really be the name of my memoir at this point).

I’ve been doing pretty well; I stayed in all weekend, getting some work done around the house, watching Netflix, and getting a jumpstart on all the work I have to do this week. I cleaned out my closet, and am selling a bunch of my clothes on Poshmark, so if you’re looking to save some money shopping for clothes, check out what I’ve got available!

This week’s quote comes from Laurie Colwin, and is helping me to get more inspired for cooking at home, even if I am cooking for 1. Hope you enjoy!

“No one who cooks, cooks alone. Even at her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice and menus of cooks present, the wisdom of cookbook writers.”
— Laurie Colwin
